Wilbur Peachey Obituary

Wilbur F. Peachey, age 79, of Winfield went home to be with the Lord on April 10, 2026 from Rolling Hills Manor in Millmont, PA.  The nurses and staff at Rolling Hills Manor as well as family and friends nurtured and cared for him in his last days.

He was born in Belleville PA on July 9th, 1946.  He was the son of the late Raymond and Ethel Zook Peachey.  He was the loving husband of Esther Byler Peachey with whom he had celebrated 58 years of marriage.  He loved to spend time with his children and was the life of the party at extended family gatherings.

He graduated from Belleville Mennonite School. He then earned a bachelor’s in social work at Eastern Mennonite College (University) in Harrisonburg, VA, and he earned a master’s degree in social work administration Commonwealth of Virginia in Richmond, VA. He started his career as a child foster care worker in Richmond, VA and he worked at a halfway house for persons struggling with addiction in Watertown, NY.  He also worked in the mental health counseling profession as a mental health therapist, but for most of his career, he worked as the director at Union Snyder Community Counseling Services which later was renamed as Susquehanna Valley Community Care.  He had a heart for persons who struggle with mental health challenges, a heart for persons who are marginalized from mainstream culture and he had a heart for the community.  After his professional career, he worked at Lowes and Elmcroft which is now Celebration Villa.  He also did some conflict transformation work at Community Mennonite Fellowship where he was a member and he was a promoter of peace.

He also loved music and singing, he led congregational church hymn singing , he directed some children’s church musicals and sang in Buffalo Valley singers for many years. He appreciated live music, he attended many concerts at Bucknell University Weis Center of the Performing Arts and enjoyed some private singing/music events with family and friends at his home.

He also enjoyed nature, tending to his yard and flower beds, and he tended to numerous blue bird boxes that he had established in the area.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Charlene Peachey, his son, Jonathan Peachey, two sisters, Joyce Yoder and Darlis and Howard Keener, a brother, Kenneth Peachey and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Community Mennonite Fellowship's temporary location, 100 Mahoning Street, Milton, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jim Hostetler and Pastor Nigel Smith, co-officiating.  Burial will be held privately in Beaver Run Mennonite Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Mennonite Fellowship, 2985 Broadway Road, Milton, PA 17847.
