Thornton W. “Sonny” Moser, 87, of Milton, left to be reunited with the love of his life, the late Elvira A. “Barry” (Showers) Moser on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. He was surrounded by family and dear friends at home in his hometown of Milton.
Sonny was born October 21, 1938 to the late Herman W. and Marie M. (Baumgardner) Moser. He is a graduate of the Class of 1956 from Milton High School, and shortly after school, set sail with the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Iowa and USS Galveston, where he trained as a Damage Controlman and spent much time in the carpentry shop.
After his time in the Navy, he returned to his hometown and on November 5, 1960, married the love of his life, Barry. Before her passing in November 2025, they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Sonny devoted his life to work and service to those that he met, the communities he lived, and to anyone who was in need. He worked for many years at Continental Can in Milton, and then at Allens True Value (now Ficks Hardware) in Watsontown. After retirement, he helped maintain the pavilions in the Watsontown Community Park. In his free time, Sonny was also an avid gardener and fisherman.
When the Moser’s moved to McEwensville in 1964, Sonny’s devotion to the community began. Over his 30 plus years of service, he served on the Board of Directors for the Montgomery House Library, member of the former McEwensville Vol. Fire Company, and past member of the McEwensville Borough Council, serving in various leadership roles. His tenure on borough council and commitment to the Borough of McEwensville earned him a citation of appreciation and dedication of service.
Sonny was a faithful and integral member at Holy Spirit Evangelical Lutheran Church in Turbotville. He served in various leadership roles at one of the former parishes, Messiah Lutheran in McEwensville. After the church’s merger in 2002, Sonny was an active leader in the newly formed building committee. In his tenure, he helped lead the construction of the current church building.
