Scott Gold Obituary

Scott S. Gold, 99, of McEwensville passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Watsontown Health & Rehabilitation Center, Watsontown.

Born May 4, 1919 in McEwensville, he was the son of the late A. Bruce and Grace M. (Buss) Gold.  On October 14, 1942, he married the former Alice G. Runyan in Phoenix, AZ, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage until her death on October 17, 2010.

He was a 1937 graduate of Watsontown High School and worked at the Watsontown Brick Company and Sheffers Milk Station in McEwensville before entering the US Army in 1941.

 Scott served with the 29thInfantry Division, Fort Meade, MD until being accepted into the Army Aviation Cadet program in 1942.  He graduated from Luke Field, Phoenix, AZ on Dec. 2, 1942 as a pilot with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.  He served in the training command until June 1945 when he was transferred to pilot training for B-29 bombers, and he graduated as a B-29 Commander. He was honorably discharged in October 1945.

He owned and operated a dairy farm in rural Watsontown until 1967 when he established the Scott S. Gold Plumbing and Heating which he operated until retiring in 1984.

He was a life member of the former Messiah Lutheran Church, McEwensville, having served on the church council for many years, holding the offices of President, Secretary, and Financial Secretary, and he was active in the Christian Education of the church and Sunday school.  Many times he served as the chairman for church programs and represented Messiah Lutheran Church at the Lutheran Synod Convention.  Currently he is a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church.

He was an active member and served on the board of the Montgomery House Library, McEwensville and was a school board member when Warrior Run School District was formed.  He was a member of the former McEwensville Volunteer Fire Company for many years, and in 1989 he and his wife were honored for their outstanding and dedicated service in-and-around the borough of McEwensville.

He was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #913, Milton and the American Legion Post #71, Milton, and a member of the Shakespeare Rod and Gun Club and AARP.

Surviving are two sons:  Scott S. Gold, II and his wife Susan of Oxford, PA and Gerald D. Gold and his wife Jean of rural Watsontown; five grandchildren:  Brenda Moran, Scott Gold, III, Christopher Gold, Bryan Gold, and Priscilla Shoemaker, and ten great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his wife were two brothers: Wilbur and George L. Gold.

Friends and family are invited to the funeral service on Tuesday, March 12, at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10275 State Route 44, Turbotville with the Rev. Thomas Glasoe, officiating.  Burial will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Scott’s memory be made to either the Building Fund at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, PO Box 6, Turbotville, PA 17772, or Montgomery House Library, PO Box 5, McEwensville, PA 17749.
