Sandra S. (Schuyler) Fairman

Sandra Ruth Schuyler Fairman of New Columbia, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, following a courageous three year battle with cancer. Her loving husband Wally was by her side. 

Sandie was born on October 8, 1955 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to Stanley and Hazel (Reeser) Schuyler.  She grew up on the family farm in the Village of Schuyler and graduated from Warrior Run High School in 1973. She received her B.A. in communications in 1977 from Bloomsburg University, where she was a proud member of the Phi Iota Chi sisterhood. After graduation, Sandie moved to California to pursue acting. She returned to Central Pennsylvania in  1998, and later joined the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corp. where she worked as a compliance monitor until her retirement in 2021. 

Sandie was, at her core, a great performer who loved being on stage. She first joined the Community Theatre League in 1977 when she was cast as Maria in their first production of The Sound of Music. Many more exceptional performances followed, including starring roles in A Streetcar Named Desire; Steel Magnolias; Other Desert Cities; Dix Tableux; The Cemetery Club; Driving Miss Daisy; Fried Green Tomatoes; Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike; and Calendar Girls. Additionally, Sandie was a respected and effective director who loved teaching and coaching other actors to hone their craft.

Sandie was a spiritual woman, and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Watsontown, where she served as an Elder and the Choir Director. She also led an active lifestyle that included yoga, her Watsontown walking group, and the Silver Sneakers program at The Miller Center in Lewisburg. Additionally, Sandie found daily joy in animals, crossword puzzles and a nice glass of pinot grigio.

Sandie is survived by her husband of 20 years, Wally Fairman, and their cat Noah, the Duke of Driftwood Terrace; her three step-daughters, Abigail Fairman of Santa Monica, CA, Hannah Somers of Reisterstown, MD, and Kathryn Fairman of Fairbanks, AK; and her beloved grandson, George Somers. She is also survived by her brother Glenn Schuyler of Turbotville, PA, her sister Shirley Schuyler Yost of Lewisburg, PA (formerly of Turbotville, PA), her brother-in-law Phil Horning of California, as well as nephews Christopher Yost of Palmyra, PA and Neil Horning of California, and niece Aimee Yost Noviello of Muncy, PA. Sandie was preceded in death by her sister Linda Schuyler Horning and her parents.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday, August 17 at First Presbyterian Church, Watsontown where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastors Paul and Laura Smith, and Pastor Brian Cieslukowski, co-officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to one of the organizations that Sandie treasured most:  The Community Theater League or The First Presbyterian Church of Watsontown.
