Kenneth Mertz Obituary

Kenneth Hawkins Mertz, 80, of Danville, PA closed his earthly eyes and awoke in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026.  He was born on May 11,1945 in Danville.  He was the son of the late Clyde and Mary (Hawkins) Mertz.

Ken attended DeLong School in Washingtonville until 8th grade and later graduated from Danville High School in 1963.  He attended Bloomsburg Teacher’s College graduating in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Earth & Space Science. On June 3rd, 1967, he married his one true love, Connie (Boyer) and together, with their own hands, they built their home on Ken’s family farm near Washingtonville.  Later, Ken taught science at the Warrior Run Middle School for 28 years, until he retired in 1997. After retiring he enjoyed working part-time in the lawn and garden department at Sears in the Columbia mall.

Ken’s kindness, generosity, helpfulness, and love of the outdoors impacted countless lives. He was a 4-H leader and Hunter Ed instructor for over 50 years as well as a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a member of the DeLong Community Hall board, volunteered at the Montour- DeLong Community Fair, demonstrated maple sugaring at the Montour Preserve, and served with the Shamokin Area Christian Laymen Association, a campground ministry at Knoebels and J &D. He especially loved sharing nature with children. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, gardening, and adored his chickens.  However, the greatest joy in his life was spending time with and taking care of his family.

In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by his daughters, Collesce (John) Beck and Heather (Jeff) Good, both of Danville and his two precious grandchildren, Mandy and Morgan.  He was preceded in death by one brother, who died at birth and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held on Friday, April 17th, 2026, beginning at 9:30 am and followed by a celebration of life at 11am at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene, 71 Nazarene Lane, Milton, PA  17847.
