John T. Irelan, 95, of Danville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born March 14, 1928 in South Bend, Indiana he was the son of the late Orie and Margaret (Johnson) Irelan. He was married to the former Joan VanMatre for 69 years until her passing, December 2017.
He was a graduate of Chrysler High School in New Castle, Indiana. John served honorably in the US Navy during World War II. He enjoyed sports and was a high school referee. John was an avid golfer and had 13 hole-in-ones throughout his lifetime.
John worked in the insurance industry and later as a financial advisor for American Express Financial Services. He then retired and lived in The Villages, Florida for 20 years.
Surviving are a daughter: Karen I. Deitrick (Gerald), of Loris, South Carolina; a son: Thomas M. Irelan (Tracey Worsfold), of Perth, Scotland; two grandsons, Christopher Eiswerth (Stephanie Akpa), of Takoma Park, Maryland, and Philip Eiswerth of Liberty, Pennsylvania; and two great granddaughters, Maya and Obiora Eiswerth of Takoma Park, Maryland.
Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his grandson, Patrick Eiswerth.
Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
