Freeman Cromis, Jr. Obituary

Freeman L. Cromis, Jr., 93, of West Milton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Evangelical Community Hospital.

Born August 3, 1930 in Washingtonville, he was the son of the late Freeman L., Sr. and Arlye (Clements) Cromis.  On May 20, 1952 he married the former Peggy R. Thornburg and they celebrated 60 years of marriage until her death on June 7, 2012.

He was a 1949 graduate of the former Turbotville High School, attended Penn State University for a year, and then enlisted in the US Air Force where he served honorably for over 20 years.  He was first stationed at Warner Robbins Base in Georgia, then Washington D.C.; St. John's, Newfoundland; Dover, DE; Pottsville, PA; Luzon, Phillippines; and lastly at Lubbock, TX, retiring in 1971.  After his discharge from the Air Force, he was employed at Pennsylvania House in Lewisburg for 20 years.  He and his wife also established House of Ages Antiques in West Milton.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, camping, restoring houses, antiquing, flea markets, caring for his cats, cooking, and good food with the local drink. He loved to travel especially to Europe with his family. Germany, Italy, France & Poland were visited most often. Discovering the trenches of the battleground where his father-in-law fought in WWI was an unforgettable highlight!

Surviving are two daughters: Gay J. Marek of Lewistown and Sue C. Remaley of Turbotville; two grandsons: Mathew R. Remaley and his companion Amy Mignot and Ethan J. Marek; a brother, James Cromis and his wife Denise of Unityville; and a sister, Marilyn Taylor and her husband Don of Danville.

Preceding him in death besides his wife was an infant son, Tracy Cromis; and three brothers: Harry "Bill" Cromis, Gerald "Butch" Cromis, and Robert Cromis.
