Frances McCormick, 105, Allenwood, peacefully passed away to be with her Lord and Savior at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, on Saturday, October 21, 2023.
Born September 7, 1918 in Allenwood, she was the daughter of the late Walter G. and Ruth (Datesman) Meek. In December 1941, she married the late Cyrus H. McCormick and together they celebrated 51 years of marriage until his passing in 1993.
Frances was a 1935 graduate of Montgomery High School, a 1939 graduate of Bucknell University with a Bachelors Degree in English and Social Studies, and a 1942 graduate of Bucknell University with a Master’s Degree in Education. Her first teaching job was at Montgomery High School. Frances also taught at Nescopeck, Warrior Run Middle School, Dewart Elementary, and Watsontown Elementary. Her passion was teaching first grade.
She was a lifelong member of Washington Presbyterian Church in Allenwood, where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years, stayed involved with all church activities, and served as an Elder of the church.
Frances enjoyed traveling to Idaho and Florida to see her children and grandchildren. She was proud to say that she was driving until she was 100 years old.
Frances is survived by two sons, Larry H. McCormick and his wife, Judy, Port Matilda, and Lynn C. McCormick and his wife Dianne, Allenwood; a daughter, Kay F. and her husband Thomas Reifsnyder, Sandpoint, Idaho; 8 Grandchildren, Lynette Reid, Mark McCormick, Rebekah Donley, Matthew Reifsnyder, Heather Malone, Jodi O’Connell, Troy McCormick, and Jeremy McCormick; 9 Great-Grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanne Osborn, Lexington, Kentucky.
In addition to her parents and husband, Cyrus, Frances was preceded in death by a son, Walter George McCormick; and a brother, Robert Meek.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 1:00-2:00PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Washington Presbyterian Church, Allenwood where the funeral service will be held at 2:00PM with Rev. Todd Baker, officiating. Burial will follow in Uniontown Cemetery.
