Edith E. (Fredrickson) – Umstead
Edith (Skip) Umstead, 82, departed this life peacefully at 1:20 pm, Friday January 8th 2021, from her residence at Manor Care North, in Williamsport, PA.
Born July 6th, 1938 in Galeton, PA, she was one of six Daughters of the late Elsie E. (Grant) Fredrickson and Earnest E. Fredrickson. Skip was a 1956 graduate of Montgomery – Clinton High School.
She was married for twenty years, starting in 1957, to now retired Marine Corp Master Sargent Gary R. Umstead Sr.
She worked hard all her life through everything from accounting and retail sales to Licensed Real Estate Agent, Notary Public, to starting her own business, just to name a few.
Her life long passion and enthusiasm for flowers, gardening and nature, lead her from Certificates in Landscape design and Management to becoming a Certified Master Gardner from Penn State. “Edie” as she is called by many, was a member and President of both the Duboistown Garden Club and the Jersey Shore Garden Club.
She is remembered by all that knew her for her free spirit, happiness, humor, grace and sillyness. Her loving heart and through all, carefree, positive outlook on life.
Skip made everyone feel like family.
From a 2006 High School reunion questionnaire;
Important things in your life: Family, Home, Gardening, and Friends.
Hobbies: Gardening, Traveling, and watching Birds.
Future plans: Visit as many Gardens as possible and Travel.
All of these are evident from the 1000’s of pictures she took of Friends and Family, places she had been, flowers / gardens she had grown and visited. And especially of the house of 30 years she made her Home.
From a handwritten thank you card from her now late Sister Erma:
“You have a way of always making me feel better about the world.”
Skip is outlived by two remaining Sisters, a Son, three Grandchildren, four Great-Grandchildren, many, many Nieces and Nephews, and by the hearts of all reading this.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc PC, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville. www.wfbrooksfuneralhome.com
