E. Lucille Splain, 88, of Danville, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side, on December 4, 2024.
Born August 1, 1936, in Catawissa, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Mildred (Mottern) Splain and J. Earl.
Lucille is survived by sisters Mildred Strittmatter and Frances Hack of Danville and one brother, Lester Splain of Bloomsburg. Nephew/foster son, James Splain and wife Suzanne, and their daughter Janelle Rowe, and husband Tim. She also leaves behind her loving niece / honorary daughter, Valerie Mazol, and her daughters Shawna Rhodes and her husband Jerami, and Cassandra Poole. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom loved her.
She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, gardening(which was taught to her by her father), reading books , shopping, spending time with Valerie, and most of all, teaching and caring for Valerie’s grandchildren and great grandchildren, Haley, Jonathan, Jayden, Evan, Araya, Laina, Mikayla, Maverick, August, Alice, and Kaylani. She devoted most of her time to caring for generations of the children in her family.
In addition to her parents, Lucille is preceded in death by brothers, Harry, James, Donald, and George; Sisters Betty Philips, Irene Shoemaker, Mary Catherine, Bessie Howell, and many nieces and nephews, including her great –great- great nephew, Michael and Valerie’s husband John.
Lucille’s life was lived beautifully. Never was there a moment where she wasn’t devoting her time, energy, or talent to teach. Her legacy will live on through the love , and she will be remembered through the very lucky people who received from her and never realized that she didn’t ask for anything in return.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 11:00 am to Noon on Thursday, December 12 at Shiloh United Church of Christ, 512 Bloom St., Danville, where a funeral service will be held at Noon with Pastor Mary Schmotzer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Reformed Cemetery, Danville.
