Arthur Elliott Obituary

On September 17, 2020, Arthur Earl Elliott, loving husband, father and pappy, passed away peacefully at the age of 99.

The youngest of thirteen children, Art was born on July 13, 1921 in Pioneer, PA to John and Ida (Derr) Elliott. He was fourteen years old when his father was fatally struck by a car – Art considered this to be one of the events that most significantly shaped the course of his life.

He graduated from Watsontown High School in 1938 and gained vast experience as a craftsman in many disciplines. Art was a union sheet metal worker for over 70 years. He was also a mason and belonged to the Watsontown Masonic Lodge #401. He founded Williamsport’s Elliott Brothers Sheet Metal Company, which was proudly “A Clean-Cut Company!” He married his soulmate, J. Marvene (Waltman) Elliott from Allenwood, PA, and they enjoyed nearly 70 years together.

Art enjoyed old cars, polka music, square-dancing and Airstream trips with his lifelong co-pilot Marvene. An avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, he was a proud member of the Poor Shot Hunting Club in Lycoming County. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in South Williamsport for over 50 years and served on the Property Committee. Art was the President of Penn Lehigh Airstream group in 1991 and participated in rallies for many years. He treasured the friendships he made on the road and in the community of Airstreams at Traveler’s Rest in Dade City, FL. A legendary storyteller, he will be remembered for his quick wit, humor and generosity. He was also a doting husband and great cook. He loved milk can stew, cherry pie, thick-cut bacon, butter and Duke’s mayonnaise. Despite declining vision in his final years, Art continued to live a robust life – he was deeply grateful for every phone call, visit and letter from his friends and family.

Art was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Marvene, by a single day. He was also preceded in death by his six brothers (George, Myron, Fred, Raymond, Harold, Lawrence) and six sisters (Margaret Whitmoyer, Kate Duke, Ruth O’Connor, Dorothy Reynolds, Effie Herrick, Phoebe Elliott).

He is survived by six daughters: Jeanne (Wayne Marshall) of Bettendorf, IA; Sue (Ted Evans) of Trout Run, PA; Sonya (Gary Boden) of Dauphin, PA; Carol (Joseph Prisco) of Cherry Hill, NJ; Paula (David Young) of Lewisburg, PA; Sally of Eagles Mere, PA. Art was a beloved Pappy to his 15 grandchildren (Nicole, Toby, Jenni, Keith, Erich, Todd, Gustaf, Patrick, Jared, Bryan, Seth, Katelyn, Christopher, Helena & Dresher) and six great-grandchildren.

Art wished to thank Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village in Lewisburg for their loving care of his wife, Marvene. He visited her every day, and he was grateful for the support and friendships he made with the staff.

Family and friends are invited to call from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, Friday, September 25th at Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc PC, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville, there will be a joint celebration honoring Marvene and Arthur will be held at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.

In his later years, Art was tremendously grateful for the joyful and informative entertainment provided by the Public Broadcasting Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PBS or the American Cancer Society.
