Dorothy O. Hummer, 77, of Jersey Shore, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born September 28, 1941 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Raymond O. and Naomi R. (Messner) Gorham. She was married to Alfred W. Hummer, Sr. until his death on May 13, 2009.
She was a graduate of Lock Haven High School. A welder by trade, she had worked at Woolrich Company as a seamstress for many years. Earlier in life she had taught in one-room schoolhouses in the New England states and was a youth minister in Portland, Maine.
She was an active member of the Blanchard Church of Christ where she enjoyed working with the youth program. She was often called the "mother Teresa of Blanchard".
Surviving are two daughters: Judy M. Neufer and her husband David W., Jr. of Jersey Shore and Bonnie F. Wheeler and her husband William M. of St. Pauls, NC; two sons: Alfred W. Hummer, Jr. and his wife Melody Henderson of Avis and Timothy P. Hummer Sr. and his wife Joni Bennett of Jersey Shore; 16 grandchildren: Denisha, Corrie, Neva, Timothy, Jr., Ashley, Tyler, Dominick, Christopher, Nathan, Kristine, Heath, David, Alex, Misty, Brookelyn, and Noah; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Raymond, Paul, and Jake, and four sisters: Lulu, Rose, Virginia, and Martha.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were two brothers: David and Sam; two sisters: Bertha and Naomi; and a great-granddaughter, Karter.
Family and friends may call from 9 to 10:00 AM Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Blanchard Church of Christ, 169 Beach Street, Blanchard where a memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM with Pastor Russel Moldovan officiating. Burial in Bellevue Cemetery, Avis will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to her church, Blanchard United Church of Christ, or to Sylvan Hills Camp, 175 Sylvan Hills Rd, Howard, PA 16841.
