Dennis L. "Denny" Gavitt

Dennis Lee "Denny" Gavitt, 69, of Green Valley Road, Hughesville, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019 at his home.

Born December 12, 1949 in Muncy, he was the son of the late Betty (Shoemaker) Gavitt and Paul Gavitt.  On February 13, 1972 he married the former Donna R. Swisher and they have celebrated 47 years of marriage.

He was a 1967 graduate of Sullivan County High School and served with the United States Air Force in Vietnam as a flight line mechanic servicing F-4 Phantom Jets.  After being honorably discharged, he worked in construction and for several wire rope companies, retiring in 2012 from Alcan Cable in Williamsport.

Denny enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, and woodworking.  The true joy of his life were times spent with his son, grandchildren and his family.  He also enjoyed spending time with "the boys" from Alcan.

Surviving are his wife, Donna R. Gavitt; a son, Joshua A. Gavitt and his wife Michelle of Picture Rocks; four grandchildren, Dakota, Bryce, Morgan and Bailey Gavitt; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Clayton and Levi Patts; a brother, Robert L. Gavitt and his wife April of Eagles Mere; two sisters: Beverly Gavitt Lowe, wife of the late Ralph Lowe of Picture Rocks and Gloria Gavitt Horning and her husband Henry "Nick" of Ridgway; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Denny's life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Friends Church, 137 South Third Street, Hughesville.  Burial in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy will take place privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Heart Health Institute of Advanced Medicine at Geisinger Medical Center, 100 North Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17821 or at www.geisinger.org.
